Ludovica Ferrario

Born and raised in Rome, was brought up in a bilingual cultural background and has maintained strong ties with the Anglo-American world. An ever-present interest in the relationship between space and psychology led her to a degree in Architecture and to the moving image as the means to express her on-going research.

Works and believes in cinema as expressive means of narration, and lives of the interaction it offers every day with different people, worlds and cultures.

In finalizing her own perspective, grateful to grow with her team, she considers her work all the more successful if her trait is not evidenced, but rather allows the newly-created space to appear as an authentic existing site to the audience's sight.

After years of work with most important Italian directors as art director and production designer, has worked with major directors in her country as Wim Wenders and Abbas Kiarostami. In the last years with Paolo Sorrentino, first as art director in "The Great Beauty”, then as production designer in “Youth" and in "The Young Pope” and later again on "The New Pope".

The works done with the Oscar Winner Sorrentino brought her to a Nomination as Best Production Designer for the Nastro d'Argento Award 2015 and a Nomination for the David di Donatello Award 2016 with "Youth" and to a Prime Emmy Nomination in 2017 as Best Production Designer for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program with "The Young Pope"

Has lately worked for period projects too such as the series of Danny Boyle "Trust" and the period movie on the painter and sculpture Antonio Ligabue "Hidden Away" directed by Giorgio Diritti winning the David Award 2021 as Best Production Designer.

Her latest challenges are for a medivial movie directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli "Chiara" and the series "La Storia" directed by Francesca Archibugi transposition of the book of Elsa Morante, a pillar of Italian Literature.

She likes to shift from smaller to bigger projects bringing service to narration with her vision.

Loves nature, people and to travel within stories and in the world.
